The Great Resignation in the United States saw a record 4.53 million workers quit in March 2022, surpassing the previous record of 4.51 million in November 2021, according to the Job Openings and Turnover Survey (JOLTS) released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
JOLTS defines “Layoffs” as voluntary layoffs initiated by an employee during a month, while “Layoff Rate” is the number of layoffs during a month as a percentage of total employment. The “Layoff Rate” was 3.0 percent in March 2022, corresponding to series highs of 3.0 percent in November 2021 and December 2021.
